A CELEBRATION OF INSPIRATIONAL WOMEN IN MEDIA
On International Women’s Day, Cineville is proud to present
Producer Julie
Baines (Creep,
The
Cat's Meow) and Director Cilla
Ware (Primeval,
Spooks).
Julie and Cilla discussed their careers with clips from their work.

With live music from Alice Shaw and Emily Baker from 6.30pm - 7.30pm
Alice Shaw
Influenced by classic songwriters ranging from Ben Folds, Stevie
Wonder to Tori Amos, Alice Shaw writes passionate anthems of love
and loss, rejection and personal awakening; her soaring vocals,
three part harmonies and delicately intricate piano work delivering
her heartfelt lyricisms to jaw dropping effect.
Emily Baker
Dividing her time between writing, recording and general noise-making,
Brighton based musician Emily Baker has been writing songs for ages.
Drawing inspiration from Brian Wilson’s vocal arrangements,
McCartney’s melodies and lyrics inspired by the likes of Carole
King, James Taylor and proper good bands like The Cardigans and
Crowded House; Emily’s style fuses classic songwriting with
a contemporary twist. In her recordings there’s always a bit
of an electro edge, which she can’t help as she enjoyed the
finer side of a childhood in the 80s.
This reception has been sponsored by the Brighton
Music Network and Lighthouse and is part of the Women
In Media Conference.
Cineville is our programme of monthly masterclass and networking
