SPEED DATING WEB CHALLENGE
In October 2005 we launched Digiville with an inovative event which coincided with the Big Blip. The Speed Dating Web Challenge was held at the Brighton Fringe Basement and was attended by 38 digital artists. The participating artists came from a wide range of practice backgrounds and fortuitously many of them had not come across each other before.

Participants were given 3 minutes with each person, during which time they were asked to talk about their practice interests. They then formed teams of 3, and went off to work out a response to our brief, which was to develop a microsite (under 2MB in size) based around the theme of ‘scale’. The artists then reconvened and delivered their pitch to the group, who voted on what they considered to be the best idea. The winning teams were given £1,000 to make their idea a reality. A more detailed rendition of the event and some great mugshots of the participants can be found at www.blip.me.uk

The winning team consisted of Ivan Pope, Luciana Haill, and Sarah Angliss. Their site is a tribute to the recently decommissioned Routemaster Bus, and is based on the idea of the Routemaster being used as a unit of measure.
