DIGIVILLE
Wednesday 19th April 2006

DIGIVILLE in association with BLIP hosted a talk by William Latham, the pioneering generative artist, which was a retrospective of his work to date, and a glimpse of things to come.

Latham is best known for his visionary work in evolutionary art and computing which he collaboratively produced with IBM UK between 1987 and 1993. It was during this time that he co-authored the now classic text "Evolutionary Art and Computers" with mathematician Stephen Todd. Subsequently Latham worked in the field of computer games exploring new software and Artificial Intelligence systems for in-game character interaction. Now Latham has re-emerged into the public conscience with a return to the earlier evolutionary work (frozen since 1993) with projects such as 'Mutation Code Resurrection'. Latham is currently a Research Fellow at Goldsmith's College London, where he is developing the MUTATOR code.
