Lighthouse screened the acclaimed feature documentary Unknown White Male, released by Word Of Mouth Films, and followed it with a Q&A with the film's distributor Penny Nagle.
British-documentary Unknown White Male tells the fascinating true story of Doug Bruce, a young, handsome Brit in New York who one day in 2003 inexplicably lost his memories to a rare form of amnesia.
Directed by a long-time friend of Doug’s, the film follows his incredible journey to rediscover himself after 35 years of memories were wiped clean. Whilst revealing how Doug copes with his predicament, the film also shows the uplifting flip-side; he gets to experience the world and its pleasures – falling in love, tasting chocolate mousse, seeing the ocean and listening to music – all as if for the ‘first’ time.
The Oscar-shortlisted film has been creating a buzz since its premiere at the Sundance and London Film Festivals last year and upon its US release last month. It is released in London cinemas from 7th April, and regionally from April 21st.
