DACS OPEN WORKSHOPS

FEBRUARY & MARCH 2012
BRIGHTON

A series of digital workshops opening up the world of visual artists

During February and March, Lighthouse will be hosting three innovative workshops developed by DACS (Designers and Artists Copyright Society). The workshops have been launched to develop new digital tools for visual artists to enable them to engage new audiences, and to develop new distribution channels and revenue streams.

Visual artists will work in collaboration with innovative technology company Jaggeree to explore radical new ways to approach audiences and to sustain independent practice using digital technology. The workshops at Lighthouse will focus on the theme of post-digital.

The series of workshops will provide space for the development and testing of new tools built by Chris Thorpe of Jaggeree, based upon suggestions from the involved artists. Once developed, the intention is for the new digital tools to be made widely available for artists to use.

Artists taking part in the workshops at Lighthouse include a diverse range of practice backgrounds from sculpture and photography to cutting-edge digital art.

Artists include: Simon Faithfull, Kate Genevieve, Elpida Hadzi-Vasileva, Clare Strand and artist group LuckyPDF (who have been nominated for the inaugural Samsung Art Prize).

DACS is a not-for-profit visual arts rights management organisation. DACS was established 25 years ago by artists for artists. Among its founding artists were Eduardo Paolozzi, Susan Hiller and Elaine Kowalsky. DACS was set up to ensure that artists’ rights are respected and that these rights are recognised both financially and morally.
