THE CRAFT OF WRITING TV DRAMA

"This is without question the best course on screenwriting I have ever taken and I strongly recommend it to any writer wishing to focus on television drama."

Emilia di Girolamo, previous participant

This course, supported by Skillset's Freelance Training Fund, provides an opportunity for six writers to take part in a series of practical workshops to learn and then apply the range of techniques used by writers, producers and script editors when developing successful television drama. During the course each participant writes a 50-minute episode of an original drama series with support and feedback from the tutor Philip Palmer, an experienced writer and script editor.

Eight workshop days are spread over a period of six months. Writers are expected to meet deadlines for treatments, storylines and drafts between sessions. At various points during the course, guest television drama executives, currently involved in developing new work, read the work in progress and provide constructive feedback.

The 2007 course is now complete. The six writers who took part were:

Episode One: Ann Clifford

Episode Two: Carol Russell

Episode Three: Stephen Mollett

Episode Four: Louise Pennington

Episode Five: Sarah Swords

Episode Six: Kate Munson
