INTRODUCTION TO SCREENWRITING

"The course gave enough time to discuss and ask questions, it moved at a really good pace. I learnt a lot and now feel inspired to take next steps."

"Julie is approachable and helpful and shares her screenwriting knowledge generously. She's a legend."

The syllabus for this course was commissioned by the UK Film Council to provide writers with foundation skills in screenwriting. It forms part of an integrated approach to the provision of skills for the audio-visual industries.

The course tutor is Julie Everton. Julie is a writer and a freelance script editor on feature films and has worked with screenwriters in Europe as well as in the UK. She is currently script editor on a feature funded by the UK Film Council's Development Fund.
As a writer Julie has written for stage and television as well as for film. She is an award winning playwright, produced at the Royal Court Theatre, Soho Theatre and others. For television she has written for the BBC's Down to Earth, as well as for Carlton and for BBC Schools' Hotch Potch House.

Many previous participants have used this course as a stepping stone to other screenwriting and film making pursuits: several have secured funding and gone into production with scripts written on the course, some of which have subsequently been screened locally and at national and international film festivals (eg: Little Things, click here to watch); others have won a place on MA screenwriting courses; many have gone on to develop feature-length screenplays; and a couple of participants have had scripts short-listed by the Kaos British Short Screenplay Competition.
