Most motion graphics artists, designers and animators use Adobe Photoshop and After Effects regularly, but few know the many workflow paths between the two applications.
On this course we will thoroughly navigate this territory, from a comparison of rotoscope options, to mastering the Vanishing Point process, rigging characters and video mapping strategies. Establish common ground between Photoshop and After Effects, then explore the workflows that bridge the two. You'll examine and learn creative applications of these techniques that will help you build professional motion graphics based projects.

This course covers:
- shared functionality, workflow routes and pitfalls
- simulating rostrum camera moves in After Effects inc Photomerge
- building advanced slideshows
- rigging characters using parenting and the puppet tool
- animation and video in Photoshop inc rotoscope techniques
- building layered images for After Effects 3D
- multiplane animation: creating 3D depth from 2D images
- Vanishing Point workflow between After Effects and Photoshop
- creating templates for video mapping projects
- working with 3D objects in After Effects and Photoshop

General info:
- All courses are demonstrated with Adobe CS4 but the topics covered are appropriate for Adobe CS3 unless specified.
- You are welcome to bring laptops, especially if you use CS3.
- Participants taking the Photoshop and Visualizing Music courses will be expected to have a good working knowledge of Photoshop and After Effects and be comfortable with the concepts covered in the Motion Graphics Fundamentals course.
- After completing the course participants are given listings of relevant resources and reference material.



About the tutor:
Giles Thacker set out as one of the original VJs in the late 1980s, then worked as video designer for electronic band Orbital for 10 years, raising the bar for video projection at live events, performing over 200 shows around the world. GIles now creates motion graphics for broadcast, corporate presentations and live events, working with Nike, JCB, 2020 Cricket, the Verve, BBC, Canal +, Nickelodeon, Edinburgh Hogmanay, MTV, Keane, Turin Brakes, the Princes Trust. He has tutored several university courses in Animation and Digital Design, has been an Adobe freelance Instructor and is an Adobe Certified Expert in After Effects. His website: ultrascope.co.uk
