Artist in Residence - Susan Diab The last performance of Figments happens tomorrow Saturday 30th October and it will be taking place within a day conference called Exploding Perceptions organised by the dance department of University College Chichester. Many people have said they are going to come to the performance apart from those who will be attending the conference. Kirk has been working with particle systems as a further translation of the data from the dancers movements in the motion capture suit. The gallery has been quiet this week as it is reading week for the college. A couple from Canada came in wanting to see the Henry Moore! There is a beautiful small piece, a seated figure, by him in the Bishop Otter collection which is housed in the cupboard at the back of the gallery. They also have a large drawing by Stanley Spencer. It is such a shame that art is stored away rather than seen. The e-motion web site is just about finished. I shall work on it today, tweaking the navigation and checking the links. Some students have called in this week to see how it is progressing. I am arranging to have a link from the college web site to it and Susan Kozel has said she would like a link from the Mesh website. When she was in this week she had a longish look at the site and had some interesting and useful comments to make about motion release techniques in dance of which I was not aware. I then saw a connection between motion capture and release and e-motion capture and release which I had seen before but not really understood. She also commented on the good atmosphere in the gallery and that it was great how the students like to come in and hang out there. Figments comes down on Sunday and the equipment will be returned. Jayne Hobin has promised me three days use of a Lighthouse computer to put the e-motion web site online. It will be hosted by the bn1 site. Those who collaborated (nearly all of whom had not previously made visual work on a computer before) are looking forward to seeing their work online. I am going to a couple of conferences in the next two weeks after the residency ends so shall book the production time at Lighthouse for after that time. I have spoken to Jon Lee and he is expecting me. |
