DIGITAL ARTS DISABILITY PROJECT

Artists Statements

Kate Adams
work is informed by consideration of "difference"- the individuality of one amongst many. She, along with three other artists, run an organisation, Art Works which works with young people who have profound and complex disabilities, to help them communicate and express themselves through art. This project incorporated many aspects of her concerns as an artist.

Malcolm Buchanan-Dick
is a sculptor who discovered computers and multimedia early in his career as a result of being statemented dyslexic. His first major exhibition at Coventry University was an installation of large kinetic sculptures describing aspects of dyslexia, that were controlled by the audience interaction with a multimedia presentation. Malcolm has continued to work with computers and sculptural installation, exhibiting nationally and internationally and working with young people. The Chailey project has enabled Malcolm to develop his work further.

David Prytherch
is an acclaimed glass sculptor who was disabled in a road accident in 1986. He began working with digital media and computers in 1988 and initiated an ongoing program of research into ways of using computers to make art. In 1995 he began a PhD research project at UCE investigating the importance of physicality in creative processes. His particular motivation remains the design of innovative interfaces which allow the profoundly disabled access to digital creativity and means of expression.
