MONTAGE THEATRE is made up of two main areas in performance and production where the practice of live art can be explored. The first is in directing and devising new works in a professional environment with experienced artists collaborating together, taking risks and 'playing' to create innovative performance. The second is through a strong wish I have to develop the educative role of performance art within the local community.

Montage Theatre has steadily gained recognition over the last year for its innovative approach to performance, having performed Lightlines in the New Works Festival '99 at the Phoenix Arts Centre, Leicester; the Chichester Festival Fringe, FIELD 22; Fabrica Gallery, Brighton with BN1 and Lighthouse; Chisenhale Dance Space, London and as a work-in-progress at The Lewisham Theatre Studio, and the Volcano Film Festival, The Oval House Theatre, London. It is to be performed in the Brighton Festival in May 2000.

Montage Theatre was founded in October 1998 by actress/dancer/director Judy Gordon on graduating from Goldsmiths College with a BA (Hons.) English and Theatre Arts. Judy founded Montage Theatre as a new performance company researching and experimenting with relationships between traditional theatre disciplines and technology. In the search to find a new language through the use of traditional and modern art forms, the interaction of digital scenography and live performance is explored integrating the disciplines of physical theatre, live music, dance, text, sound, video and animation.

The new work, 'Sorry, which me did you mean?' will be performed on the opening night of RESOLUTION! at The Place Theatre, London on 5th January 2000. This piece combines digital scenography, live music, dance and text using live camera and video projection . Judy Gordon directs a devised collaboration with designer David Barnett and composer/musician Ashleigh Marsh. It will also be performed as a commission for the International Symposium for Digital Creativity at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich in January. Montage Theatre has recently received grant funding from Lewisham 2000 for its site-specific community project, Second Nature, in association with Albany in Education. Directed by Judy Gordon, this is a devised theatre piece based on a group of 30 women's stories taking place from January 2000 and will performed by them at The Albany Theatre in March 2000.
