INTRODUCING FAST FORWARD
Fast Forward is a seminar series developed in collaboration between Lighthouse, Screen Archive South East, videoclub and Wired Sussex. The series aims to promote and engage audiences in contemporary issues and ideas related to artists’ moving image and digital arts practice. Funded by Arts Council England South East, the consortium has so programmed the series to include speakers working in a variety of areas within artist moving image and digital arts. The first seminar involved curator and writer Michael Conner to speak about his role as the Head of Exhibitions at the British Film Institute. Matt Adams’ presentation for the second seminar in the series focused on aspects of collaboration and financial sustainability as experienced by Blast Theory and how these elements affected its artistic output. Prolific writer and historian, Al Rees, presented a talk in which he traced experimental film and video from the 1960s and 70s to present day practices. In the last seminar, the academic, critic and curator Catherine Elwes discussed ideas and issues related to Figuring Landscapes, a curated programme of artists’ moving image work from Australia and the UK.
Presented here is an archive of the series. It includes summaries and transcriptions of each talk, along with video clips and links to various artists and organisations whose work were shown and discussed.
