STAFF
All the key project roles at Lighthouse are held
by people who either have been, or still are, practising artists
and filmmakers and who have both the knowledge and experience to
provide effective advice, guidance and critical feedback for the
people we support. We have a core staff team of six, with additional
staff joining us to support specific projects.
CORE TEAM:
Emma Basset: Administrator
Emma joined Lighthouse in 2005 as Administrator. Her background
is in art and design with a degree in Illustration. Emma is the
first point of contact at Lighthouse. A typical day for Emma involves
updating the website, preparing e-mailouts, running the short course
programme, and making sure there are enough biscuits to go round!
Sarah Flint: Chief Executive
After studying Theatre at Dartington College of Arts, Sarah went
on to begin her career in the film and TV industry where she has
worked for over twenty years. She began in post-production at the
BBC, working first as an assistant film editor, then as a film editor
and dubbing editor on television drama and documentary series including
BAFTA and RTS award-winning programmes. She later worked in production
at Yorkshire Television on a variety of films shot both in the UK
and the US. Sarah joined Lighthouse in 1999, initiating, developing
and managing a range of successful production and training projects.
She was appointed Chief Executive in May 2004. Sarah is a Fellow
of the RSA (Royal Society for the Arts) and sits on the boards of
CinyCity and Creative Brighton.
Emily Kyriakides: Head of Film
Emily has worked in the film industry in a number of roles since
graduating from Sussex University. Before joining Lighthouse she
worked at production company Spice Factory for over five years where
she gained extensive experience working closely with the Managing
Directors and Head of Business Affairs, accumulating a long list
of feature film credits as assistant to the producers. She recently
produced her first short film, 'Stubborn & Spite', funded by the
UK Film Council and Screen South through the Digital Shorts scheme.
Emily is responsible for the management of all Lighthouse's work
with filmmakers including Guiding Lights and Animation Storyboarding,
as well as Cineville, our regular masterclass/networking events.
Miriam Randall: Operations Manager
Miriam has many years of Business Management experience gained in
arts venues and the hospitality insustry. She joined Lighthouse
after a two year management role at the Gardner Arts Centre. She
has a strong background in the arts having graduated in Fine Art
Painting and studied Arts and Cultural Management at the University
of Sussex. She has previously worked as a freelance musician and
arranger, playing bass guitar at numerous live events and collaborating
on a range of projects and recordings. As the Operations Manager
at Lighthouse she is responsible for the smooth running of the venue
and the management of events, facilities and visitor services.
Kirsty Waterworth: Head of Education
As a researcher on the pre-production of numerous feature films,
Kirsty has previously worked for many Production Designers, including
multiple award winners Norman Garwood and Peter Lamont. After graduating
from Falmouth College of Arts, Kirsty began producing her own work
as an artist / filmmaker, working on a variety of large-scale public
art interventions and socially engaged projects. She continues to
straddle the art and film worlds, and is currently completing an
MA in European Film. Kirsty develops and manages our Education Programme
providing a range of opportunities for young people to experience
filmmaking, animation and media arts and to see the creative industries
as a potential career option.
Jamie Wyld: Head of Media Arts
Jamie is a curator and professional in arts development. He has
worked as visual arts officer for the Arts Council in London, Yorkshire
and the South East, and has supported artists’ development through
a number of roles, including as Digital Arts Programmer at Showroom,
Sheffield. He has been guest curator at Lovebytes International
Digital Arts Festival, and is co-director and founder of moving
image platform, videoclub. In his role as Head of Media Arts at
Lighthouse, he is responsible for developing the commissioning programme,
exhibitions and contextual events, as well as the professional development
programme for artists. He is a Fine Art graduate, and has an MA
in Arts and Cultural Management from the University of Sussex.
