WHAT WE DO
Lighthouse identifies and develops creativity
and innovation in filmmaking and media arts.
Working with a wide range of partners from the creative industries,
the public sector and education, we have established a strong reputation
for designing and delivering high quality initiatives for practising
and emerging professionals and young people. We aim to increase
skills in, enjoyment of and engagement with, film and media art,
and to provide pathways into further education and the creative
industries.
Our vision for the future is to be recognised nationally
and internationally as a key strategic agency developing moving
image and digital practice through a comprehensive range of participatory
and showcasing activities for both practitioners and audiences.
Lighthouse occupies an important strategic position at the intersection of
the arts, education and media industry sectors. Collaboration and
partnership working with all of these sectors is central to the
way we work, and ensures that our work is current and relevant,
enabling us to provide our participants with routes into education
and to bridge the divide between education and industry.
Lighthouse has three programmes of work, all of which interlink
and provide cross-fertilisation opportunities.
The Media Arts Programme provides opportunities
for early and mid-career artists working with digital technology
and moving image media to develop and showcase new work in a supportive
environment. We also provide platforms for informed critical debate
about new work and developments in contemporary practice and its
relation to its historical and cultural context.
The Film Programme supports emerging filmmaking
talent by providing opportunities for creative and professional
development through training courses, project development workshops,
masterclasses, mentoring and production support, and by facilitating
access into the UK film industry through our close working relationships
with a wide range of filmmaking professionals and companies.
The Youth Education Programme is designed to facilitate
participatory opportunities for disadvantaged and marginalised young
people to explore their creativity through filmmaking and digital
technology, providing them with new skills and qualifications and
encouraging them to recognise the arts and media industries as a
potential career option.
Lighthouse believes that collaboration and diversity are key to
innovation and to the future health of the creative industries;
engaging in, encouraging and facilitating collaborative work is
at the heart of everything we do. We aim to promote experimentation
and innovation by bringing together practitioners from different
creative and cultural backgrounds and disciplines, encouraging cross-fertilisation
of ideas, and providing platforms for diverse voices to engage in
critical debate.
